Iboga initiation Preparation
As you embark on your transformative journey with Iboga at Mama Aline's sanctuary in the heart of Gabon, it's essential to embrace these preparations as a vital step towards a profound encounter. The journey with this sacred medicine often starts the moment you commit to this path, with energies gathering and life's dynamics subtly shifting even before your arrival. To harness the full potential of your Iboga experience, consider the following preparatory steps:
Iboga meditation
Get familiar with our iboga meditation before you arrive in Gabon. The more automatic this type of meditation, the easier it is to take this into the ceremony.
Coaching
In conjunction with Iboga, engaging with a coach or an energy healer is highly recommended. This collaboration is invaluable not only for preparation but also for the integration phase that follows. At Mama Aline's, we advocate for a holistic approach to integration, utilizing a variety of supportive methods to enrich your personal journeys. Explore the array of resources we provide to assist you in this process.
The preparatory work, including the workbook and any coaching sessions, aims to:
- Assist in letting go of life aspects or behaviors you're ready to release.
- Clarify healing intentions and uncover life discoveries you're seeking.
- Establish clear intentions and cleanse both your physical and environmental spaces.
- Prepare for significant life changes and bring subconscious matters into consciousness.
- Offer insights into your mental programming and the workings of your subconscious mind.
Meditating with Bwiti music is also a great way to prepare for the ceremony

Your goals should include:
- Embracing surrender and openness to the unfolding process.
- Setting aside expectations, understanding the experience will be uniquely different.
- Cultivating vulnerability and a willingness to explore uncomfortable life aspects.
- Opening your heart and mind to the healing journey.
- Building trust in the medicine and our guidance to enhance the healing at every level.
- Listening to Bwiti music is a great way to prepare for the energies of iboga. The ngombi harp is one of the best coaches around.
Physical & Emotional Iboga Preparation
We recommend beginning your holistic preparation at least one week prior to your Gobon journey. The clearer your body, mind, and spirit, the more effectively the medicine can work, minimizing the need to navigate through "noise" and toxins. Specifically, Iboga engages with the liver, so making a liver flush before you arrive in Gabon is highly recommended.
Environmental Preparation
Most of this is already covered in the safety section of this website. But traveling to the deep jungles of Gabon presents a unique and adventurous experience, not to underestimate. So it also requires thorough preparation due to the challenging conditions such as high humidity, heat, and the prevalence of mosquitoes, which can carry diseases like malaria and yellow fever. Here's an enhanced and comprehensive guide to help you prepare effectively:
Health and Safety
- Vaccinations: Ensure you are up to date with all recommended vaccines, including Yellow Fever, which is a requirement for entry into Gabon. Consider vaccinations for Hepatitis A and B, Typhoid, and Rabies, depending on your itinerary.
- Malaria Prophylaxis: Consult with a travel health specialist to get a prescription for antimalarial medication, such as atovaquone-proguanil, doxycycline, or mefloquine.
- Insect Protection: Use insect repellents containing DEET, picaridin, or oil of lemon eucalyptus on exposed skin. Treat clothing and gear with permethrin and ensure your sleeping areas are protected with mosquito nets, even if they're already provided, for added security.
- First Aid Kit: In the kitchen in our village we have a first aid kit. However carrying a comprehensive first aid kit that includes antiseptics, bandages, anti-diarrheal medication, oral rehydration salts, antihistamines, pain relievers, and any personal medications can be useful as you will not stay in our village the entire duration of your visit in Gabon.

Clothing and Gear
- Lightweight and Breathable Clothing: Opt for lightweight, long-sleeved shirts and pants to protect against mosquito bites and the sun, made from materials that wick away moisture. What is really useful are longer thin socks, white in color and breathable. This will avoid the "furu" biting your feet.
- Rain Gear: The jungle is wet; bring a high-quality, lightweight, and breathable waterproof jacket and pants.
- Footwear: Waterproof, sturdy hiking boots with good grip are essential for navigating the rugged terrain. Consider also packing sandals or water shoes for more relaxed moments or crossing waterways.
- Backpack: A durable, waterproof backpack with multiple compartments will help keep your gear organized and dry.
Navigation and Communication
- Maps and GPS: The jungle can be disorienting; Download google maps on your phone in case you have no reception.
- Local Guides: Use Antonio or any other local guide if you go to Loango or other parks.
Sustenance and Hygiene
- Water Purification: Carry a reliable water purification system, such as a filter or purification tablets, to ensure access to safe drinking water. Our village has purified healthy water.
- Non-Perishable Food: Pack lightweight, high-energy, and non-perishable foods like nuts, dried fruits, and energy bars.
- Hygiene Supplies: Include biodegradable soap, hand sanitizer, wet wipes, and a quick-dry towel to maintain personal hygiene, which is crucial in hot and humid conditions.
Respect for Nature
- Leave No Trace: Be mindful of your impact on the pristine jungle environment; carry all waste out with you.
- Wildlife Awareness: Educate yourself about the local wildlife to avoid dangerous encounters and to appreciate the biodiversity around you. our village is free of elephants but surely read about what the jungle hides.
Legal and Ethical Considerations
- Permits and Permissions: Ensure you have all the necessary permits for trekking in protected areas or national parks. You cannot just rent a car and drive through Gabon.
- Cultural Sensitivity: Be respectful of local customs and traditions; if visiting indigenous communities, understand and adhere to their guidelines for interaction.
Preparing meticulously for a journey into Gabon's jungles can make the difference between a challenging yet rewarding adventure and a potentially hazardous ordeal. Embrace the experience with respect for the natural environment and local cultures, and you'll have an unforgettable journey.
Diet Before & After Iboga
While there's no strict "Iboga Diet," a mindful approach to eating can significantly enhance your experience. But even alcohol is consumed in Gabon during the rebirth celebration (not the Nima or participants obviously) The connection between body, mind, and soul is profound, and a conscientious diet often reflects in our thoughts, environment, and social interactions. Post-experience, many find a natural inclination towards dietary improvements, mirroring internal shifts. Having said that, do expect meat in the diet when you are in Gabon.
- Prioritize healthy, vibrant foods, incorporating organic and minimally processed options.
- Include pastured, wild meats, and seafood, or embrace hearty plant-based alternatives.
- Emphasize fruits, vegetables, and grounding foods, such as root vegetables and bone broths.
- Minimize sugar intake and eliminate alcohol and caffeinated beverages to manageable levels. Also avoid gluten a week prior to arriving in Gabon.
- Focus on hydration, aiming for significant daily water intake and avoiding processed foods and beverages.
- After the initiation, make sure you keep your sugar intake very low and avoid gluten where possible. Iboga reduces not only the bad but also some good intestinal bacteria.
Medications & Supplements
We prefer you taking absolutely no supplements or medication of any kind except anti-malaria medication. However discuss any medications or supplements you have to take with us beforehand. Many may be contraindicated with Iboga or rendered ineffective during the experience. Transparency is crucial for your safety. No drugs allowed. Now interestingly enough, during the rebirth celebration, a lot of beer is shared among the villagers. This is tradition and is seen as part of the celebration. However this is not meant for the participants obviously.
Physical Exercise
Maintain or slightly enhance your regular exercise regimen, incorporating time in nature for added spiritual connection. If physical activity isn't a staple in your routine, consider gentle exercises like walking, yoga, or swimming to prepare your body.
Detox Your Brain
Reducing exposure to digital screens and social media can clear your mental space, allowing Iboga to work more directly on your core intentions.
Connect with Your Intentions
Solidifying your intentions, whether through the workbook, coaching, or personal reflection, sets the stage for a more receptive and profound experience with Iboga.
Tests
Certain tests are required before commencing the retreat:
- EKG heart film, QT interval must be below 430ms for males and 450ms for females. If above, talk to your doctor to see what is going on. Fasting often is the problem, do not fast with iboga.
- Liver test
As you contemplate embarking on this spiritual odyssey with Iboga, it's vital to introspect and ascertain your readiness for deep, transformative exploration. This journey is not only about confronting and releasing the binds of past traumas but also about embracing the light of your utmost potential through surrender and courage.
